i have to move away from tri-x to other films as my regular film.
Tri-x is now reserved for push processing only.
tri-x oem bulkroll is arista premium and sells at freestyle for
45 usd for 100ft aka 18-20 rolls of 36 exposures
I am currently playing with Fomapan 400 aka Arista Edu.
I finally nailed development at iso 200 and d76 1+1 at 5.30min@30c
this is like 37 usd for 100 feet. This is very flat when dried so is better
than Tri-x for scanning.
I also recently bought Kentmere 400, from B&H, this is the cheapest
I have since in the past 12 months, at 29 usd for 100 feet. Not developed
any yet so I can't comment.
So far the cheapest film i have found is Polypan F, this is iso 50. It sells for like 30usd
for 150m (ie. 400+ feet !!!!). It is supposed to be pushable to iso 200, but so far
I have only tried iso 50.
So if you are a high volume shooter, ie. several rolls a week, adapt the film to your style.
If I have a choice, I would like Ilford FP4 for ISO 100, and Kodak Tri-X for 200 - 1600 iso.
Fomapan 400 is okay BUT the true ISO is around 250/200 if developed with D76. I could use it
in iso 400 - iso 800 but there would be a lack of shadow details.
Polypan F 50 is cheap as a redeeming factor but it gets sticky when humidity sets in.
