film selection

Hi, This is only the tank and reel, what about the chemicals for colour negative and slide respectively. Will Kodak C41 also do fuji? Seem like
they carry only black & white chemicals only.

You can purchase C41 and E6 chemicals locally. For C41, just approach mini-labs that are still using the wet machines to see if they are willing to sell you a bottle of each chemical from their stock. If you have trouble getting someone to sell you these chemicals, pm me and I have a friend that runs a minilab that might be able to help.

For E6 chemicals, check this thread:

Anyone wants to share some E6 chemicals?

C41 and E6 are highly standardised processes, so the brand of the chemical doesn't matter that much, and the same processing times can be used for all brands of films.

Hi, Thanks for the clarification and appreciate the tip but I'll stick to digital as film is pricey nowadays.Still the thrill
of developing and printing (B/W) during my school days brings back happy memories.:)

I met Mr. Ho in Ruby sometime back, and he said we are back to the old days of film - only the rich can afford it! :)

On the other hand, film cameras are so cheap these days, never before had I thought it is possible to own a great medium format setup for less than 1k. Who would have thought it is possible to buy a 4x5 set for under 500 bucks? Enjoy while it lasts!

Film isn't as expensive as most would think - you don't blast away film as you would with digital. That added contemplation adds to the whole appeal. It's just more fun :)

Hi, You are absolutely right about the cameras even for me my first roll of film developed was a 120 medium format but the hassle of deveplopment and now scanning puts me off but for enthusiasts there is a certain look to film.Yes enjoy it while you can. :)

hi i am also looking to go into film for casual fun, with a simple toy cam. There are really many film selections out there with different results n prices.
If i wish to achieve random old, discoloured, will expired films give me that...or is my understanding wrong?

Yes, expired film will give you just that. You might want to check the lomography section out, there are many examples there...

Kodak = Warmer Shades (Yellow Tone), Fujifim = Cooler (Green Tone).

Has anyone tried the lomo film? I'm curious on the X-pro Chrome and what the colours would be like on a normal SLR

So far I did not try out the lomo film, but its not cheap. I have evaluate:
Kodak Gold 200 - Film is in warmer shade (yellow & red).
Kodak Colourplus 200 - Same as Gold 200, but the overall quality is less desirable, may be good for artist.
Kodak Ultramax 400 - Same as Gold 200 but grainer when you film scan in high megapixel.
Fujifilm Superia 200 - Vooler shade (green), grains are finer than Kodak.
Efiniti 200 - Personally feel the best film, 3 rolls @ $10 at Triple D, equalised colour tone and fine grains.

Ive tried Xpro Chrome, contrasty film for sure but it tends to get so much grainy than any 200 Slides when you cross process em'.

Personally, I go for Kodak Ultramax 400, Expired.
$11/4rolls at Bras Basah Shalomlab.
:)
