Just giving my 2 cents on my purchase of the Fenix HP11 which was brought up to the Patagonia Mountain range for a month.
- The build is solid and some may worry about the tough plastic housing. But after dropping it on basalt rocks, etc, there was not a single crack or any form of damage to the exterior.
- The light output is seriously high. While trekking, I had to have it on low setting which was enough for viewing 4 metres ahead and does not irritate the other trekkers. The high output came in great when I had to focus in the dark. The rocks in Laguna De Los Tres were lit brightly enough for me to use manual focus on Liveview mode.
- Batteries: The 4 AA batteries may seem a load to be on the head but its an easy compromise to live with if light output is high on the list. It lasted more than a week with an average of 3 hours per night usage and the batteries show no sign of weakening.
That said, my main gripe with this headlamp (and with many others) is the fact the cable is not long to detach the battery pack and store it somewhere while I had the light on my head. Trekking with just a bright light source on the head will be a great piece of news for many.
All in all, this was a superb purchase and my trekking counterparts were all impressed with the battery life and super output.
