SD100 definitely has alot more manual controls with it's focus ring and view finder. Image quality though, HF100 beats the former hands down. So unless you think you can really tame your camcorder like i've seen the vimeo people do with their JVC HD7, don't bother.

Look out for the TM300 instead, although it's more expensive then the canon S100.

i read from other forum state that sd100 has more function compare to hf100, but in term of quality, hf 100 is better. it just like what you say. but if ask you to chose, which one will u chose?

as for tm300, is really on the high side in term of price, dun really have the budget. keke...

HF100 over SD100 anyday. If you really want the manual controls, then HD7 is for you. See this video Soft Layeth the Land. HD7's been around for sometime so you prolly could get it on the cheap. Btw, someones selling a sony SR11E on the forum. I'm not promoting, but it's worth a look since the HF100 and SD100 both records at 17Mbps. (SR11E at 16)

Neither do I have the budget, but if you can throw in the money for a hf100, you prolly could save a bit more for something better.

I don't want to make a buy now and regret not having waited to see the new stock.

have not check on HD-7, but just now went to court and try both SD100 and HF100. i feel SD100 is more stylish and more function, but HF100 is more squarlish and easy to use. in term of image, i can't really tell the difference. both are selling 1899 there, wonder how much will is cost in sim lim square. SR11E selling 2500, abit high. haha..

i just watch the video, i must say it SUPER, never know consumer camcorder can make such a good video. thanks for sharing. i understand the HD-7 recording is more than 17Mbps right?

Choose Canon HF100 for better picture,Noise reduction, lowlight !!
or Canon HG10.

i was looking at hg 11 and hg 100 as well, but the thing i like to know more is can camcorder work like DSLR dat you can set alot of manual stuff. i read hd7 is 1 of the most comperhensive in term of this, how about hf 11 and hf 100, can they do it too? it would be nice to have more features on the camcorder but at anytime u can go back to manual.

i think sd100 is quite close to hd7 but i read quite abit that the quality is near same to sd9 and lost to canon anytime.

hg 11 and hg 100 are not in the market.
HF11 is not cheap, but can record 24 Mpbs.

All manual setting in Canon camcorder is simillar w/ his DSLR camera:
P,Tv,Av , give alot of combination.

You can see Camcorder Rating for Low light and video resolution in www.camcorderinfo.com

Happy choosing !!

i now chose until head big big.. hahahaa...

HF10 and HF100 produce good quality but their manual focus very hard to control, i try it today...

SD100 or HD7 has a good control on focusing but quality cannot compare with canon..

i thinking of settling with either HD7 or HF10. give me some comments.. thanks in advance.

I've been spending about 3 months reading on camcorders too. But then I have ns coming soon so I really shouldn't be doing any spending till at least 1 year into it when I got more free time. Unless of course i plan to start shooting something before i enter.

I wonder if HD7 can still be found, it is after all a 2007 model.(A drawback since you know you're getting old tech) I wouldn't consider 24Mbps to be a factor since it's only so marginally better then 17, which is prolly why Panasonic's 2009 models are still in 17Mbps land.

HD7 still can get it in aust or usa, price around $600 before shipping and GST.

The SD100 has a smooth zoom lever control, and when taking video shot, this is important. At the end of the day, the video is subject to more compression when being edited, and the end result will also depend on how the compression is done. The choice should be based on your own personal preference, no single camcorder is better than others, it is a compromise of quality, price, function, etc etc.
