Istanbul
Visited Istanbul during Christmas and was awed by the history that this gem has.
Istanbul is situated within 2 continents: Europe and Asia, separated by the river Bhosporus. At its earliest history, it was known as Byzantium (667 BC), then Constantinople (as the capital of Rome since the year 330) and finally as Istanbul when the Ottoman Empire took over in 15th century.
Due to its history, Istanbul has religious artifacts and architecture in abundance. Mosques, churches and synagogues lie side by side in peace. You can even find a great heritage such as Ayasofya (or Haghia Sophia) which was initially built as a cathedral and later converted into a mosque when the Ottoman came. The image of Mary with baby Jesus was visible above the qiblah and Mihrab (to assist muslims in directing them to the
location of Mecca). It is indeed, a city of beautiful minarets and domes!
I was left wanting more after my 5-day stay (it just simply isn't enough to cover all of Istanbul, let alone Turkey). It is definitely a city that I would love to come back to should I have the opportunity, not to mention the other areas in Turkey such as
Capadoccia, Ephesus, and many more.
If you would like to know more about Istanbul, here is a good place to start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul
Meantime, I'll populate this thread with an overview of Istanbul in infrared.
I've also uploaded full colour images on a separate thread: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=468473
Hope you'll enjoy them.
Setup:
Nikon D70s
