Well, it doesn't really "handle" it, it just converts to a different format (less compressed bigger files) that is easier to edit. As long as you have enough hard disk space it works well. Canopus Edius software has a similar workflow using the Canopus HQ codec rather than Cineform.

Neoscene is not actually a video editor, it's a plugin for video editors that converts highly compressed footage into a less compressed format.

Choice of video editors is not clear cut, because there's always personal preference to consider. Main options for serious hobbyists on the PC are Premiere, Vegas and Edius. (I don't include Avid because it's more geared towards industry users). You can get demo versions of these if you want to try them out before deciding what to buy.

There are also lower cost programs available, including entry level versions of the 3 programs above, so if your budget is tight there are still options for you to consider.

Personally, I have used Edius and Vegas a lot. I love Vegas for ease of use and the speed of editing in general, but that is based on standard definition projects. When it comes to HD editing, Edius is much smoother and faster, and has great previewing quality compared to Vegas. The user interface is not as nice as Vegas, but the performance is so much better. However Vegas is still perfectly usable with HD, as long as you don't need to synchronise video to music very tightly.

On the Mac platform, you have mainly Final Cut Pro and Studio (and Avid again). These also have their pros and cons, like all programs, but tend to get hyped up so much it gets quite difficult to find an objective comparison between them and their PC counterparts.

Best thing is to try out as many options as you can and buy what suits your needs.

thanks for the details analysis.
