I'm looking for a fast 50mm for my next purchase, but like to travel light. I wonder if there's a fast 50 pancake at reasonable price range? ~1000 give or take.

sorry, very new to this. The results on google is a little overwhelming so hope to get some help to narrow things down.

Thanks!
gerald

PS: I was considering the 50 1.5 nokton, but would like something less bulky, less intrusive.

the zeiss 50mm sonnar C f1.5... but you'll have to hunt for a 2h for your budget.

if you're okay with something a little wider, the 40nokton f1.4 is super compact, at half your budget.

Canon50mmf1.2 or Canon50mmf1.4 or Canon50mmf1.5 all LTM.
Canon50mmf1.2 (approx $600-800 depending on condition)
Canon50mmf1.4 (approx $350-550 depending on condition)
Canon50mmf1.5 (hard to find $600-$1200 depending on condition)
A bit more you can get Topcor50mmf1.5;)
Topcor, rare similar in rendition to Canon50mmf1.5 (>$1000)

canon50mmf1.4 most compact & value for money.

Plus one for the Canon 50mm f1.4. Small and light, although finding one in good condition might be a little hard locally.

Here's a pic of it with my M4-P

Lens choice.... Compact, Fast and Cheap. Usually you can only satisfy 2 out of 3. Canon will be fast and cheap, but the f/1.2 is not compact. The f/1.4 will come close, as recommended.

Cheers,

seeing the number of people who want a fast 50, I am itchy to sell my Canon 50. :P

Here's from my Canon IVSB with 50mm f/1.4. (expired rollei25 film)

Fast enough la but than got problem lei, I wear spectacles, cant see the whole 40mm frameline in the camera properly:rolleyes:, quite a few users who were specs experience this problem.

Change to 50, I can see the whole thing. Ya, I have the 50mm frame line

thx for the list.

I'm rather interested in the c sonnar... despite the price. Maybe it's time to start saving.

Where can I find Zeiss dealers? I'm rather interested in the sw ikon as a secondary camera, which seem to be a nice cam to go with a 28mm color skopar.

the list above very tempting and poisonous. Damm 20percent paycut made me suffer..!

erm, last time did remember someone posting in this RF forum that there is a guy selling Zeiss Ikon & the ZM lenses in Chinatown Point or something like that.

Gotta go dig the older threads

i think that you're referring to this thread -> http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=425666

you can also check with AP, as they carry ZM lenses, or order from john3:16.

Do more research on the Zeiss Sonnar before your commit... specifically with regards to the close range focus shift, etc.

Thx I'll do that.

Lets take one criteria out of the equation; how about bigger lens? That said, I'm certainly not considering a 400g lens. 250~ is there.
Reason I am reconsidering the bulk factor is after some usage of the 28mm ultron and I found the size isn't as bad as some reflected. So the Nokton 1.5 is in, which I'll consider as well.

thx

the 1.5 is good, but you can't expect lux asph type results... and well within your budget!!
