I'm just getting into photography and has done a good bit of research on various photographic techniques and jargon - just to get myself comfortable and a little bit more knowledgeble to engage in constructive conversations with fellow Club-Snappers (if i may call you guys that =D). Now, I'm looking for a decent camera to get me started.

I've read around and enquired about the price of both 1st and 2nd hand of the above cameras and I was wondering which one should I pick. I like pictures to be clean - minimal noise, and I enjoy O.I.S, with a good zoom range. Some manual control like AP and SP ain't gonna hurt either. CA - from all 3 cameras seem acceptable to me.

The only difference between F7/F20 and F30 that matters to me is the noise level. As you might know, F30 is a camera whose images are very clean, which definately appeals to me. However, it's kinda crippled in the zoom category, having a 3x zoom only. Wheraes the F7/F20 has ois and a very good 12x zoom. However, it's very noisy. Shooting at lower ISO will help reduce the impact of the noise.

My question is, is a low ISO range, is 80-200 good enough for use? I mean, if I were to shoot a scene with 100 iso and 200 iso, how much different would the shutter speed be? If it's not alot, I don't think the low iso and slightly longer exposure times would be that bad.

I like the clean images of F30, long zoom range and O.I.S of F20. How?!

You could have asked this in the Panasonic forums..haha.

Personally, i'd pick the Fz7 and Fz20 over F30, why so for me is cuz i do a wide variety of shooting. So the limited zoom despite a good ISO is not in for me.

Between the Fz7 and Fz20, i'd pick the Fz20 because of the hot shoe support and the wide f/2.8 constant aperture, despite its features lacking than the new Fz7. (i was an ex-fz5 user btw)

If you want high ISO capability and long zoom range, shouldn't you be considering the Fuji S9500 (with 28-300mm zoom and 5th Generation Super CCD) or the upcoming S6500 (with 28-300mm zoom and the same 6th Generation Super CCD of the F30) instead? :dunno:

Isn't the S9500 and S6500 rather expensive...? Just to check, how much does the S9500 cost new? Also, at what price do you think the S6500 will be released at?

My budget is not exceeding $600. Thanks.
erm... for 600, I guess you have to top up a slight bid for a FZ7 (new), or maybe a 2hand Fz5/7 for about $400-500+
