If 105 is a manual focus AIS lens it could be one of the following lenses ....

105/2.8 Micro
105/1.8
105/2.5

Think the F3 have some special flash hotshoe, which is not compatible with the mainstream nikon flashes unless you get an adaptor (experts please correct me!)

Also, the kit lens with the D70 might not be fully usable throughout it's entire zoom range on the F3 as its a DX lens, and whats more, its also a G lens, so you can forget about setting aperture on the F3 with the G lens.

And if the lens are AI/AIS, you can't meter with them on the D70.

If you are budget conscious, it makes more sense to stick with the F3 then paying for a new D70. Unless of course you die die want to go digital, in which case, can you give me the F3? :D

think the best bet will be to bring my lens down to the shop and try to fit it onto the D70. want to go digital lah, thats why i will make the transition to the D70 one of these days.
as for the F3, sorry pal, its an inheritance. heh

It will mount since it's all F-mount, the only thing is to take note of the AIS or AF on the lenses as AIS lenses won't meter on the D70, if you want to try, bring it along to any Nikon Council meetings, there should be either D70 or D100 to try out both the lenses, or consult our walking dictionary there on the lenses usage, you might get some additional advice :)

I believe one or two of our own members used the F3 before, so maybe they can go more indepth :)

Well equip and also check for spider :bsmilie:
Don't forget the SB800 flash.

heheheee.... :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :blah:

I just had a touch of my uncle's F3 with SB-12 flash. Sweet cam from the 80's... His lens was the 50/1.4.

As for the SB-12, it definately WILL NOT fit the D70 because the connection to the F3 is different. The contact for SB-12 and F3 is not the standard squarish hotshoe we are familiar with... It's round...

As for the 50mm/1.4, I dared not put it on my D70, cos it looked very dusty.

Weird ....it should be obvious by now the going digital aka buy a D70 means serious reinvestment. Your lens that were handed down from the F3 era will not meter with the D70; they may fit but guesstimate meter while doable is a pain in arse since the most likely case is the best shot is the one that is incorrectly exposed. Your flash is not useable with the D70 if it were a hot shoe may be if you run it on manual and use auto flash on the flash.

Asking more and more will not change facts.

Question if the F3 sat for 5 years under your bed mean it was unused for 5 years so what make digtial any difference from film ? Might be a question to ask before placing money on the table and waving it good bye.

same thoughts as insomia, maybe u can try getting the f3 to work first, try shooting a little before deciding on the d70. f3 used to be nikon top line camera, decent stuff to learn photography on. if u need help, most of us can help, just load a roll of film and try it out.

yup...best is to test the lens....and the body...at least u still have a film backup
