External Mic for D800E?

Dear all,

I'm very new to video recording. Recently I just bought a D800E, the dilemma is do I need an external mic? The main usage will be filming some events or travel log.

I did try the built-in mic of D800E, the result is satisfying. However, I'm just wondering if the external mic will bring tremendous improvement to the audio?

Thanks for the reply!i watched some video at YouTube.i think external mic is consider an essential item for filming!

I have short listed several mic that fall within my budget:
1.nikon me-1
2.zoom h1
3.audio technica pro24-cm
4.rode video mic

May I ask where is tk?and any other shop I can drop by to have a look or testing for mic?

Mintze>>> Testing, I dun think you can. TK Foto at Funan. I think level 2. I am not sure about your Nikon. For my case, 60D, there is AGC in-built. So in the beginning, I was trial and error with the settings to be used with my Rode mic. After few video-shoots, I managed to find my perfect settings for now, until I learn more about Audio for videography.
