hi... i was wondering if it is possible for those digital handheld video cam to fix external light and mic? i know that the digital cam all comes with built-in light and mic but i doubt if its good enough for low light situations like in wedding dinners... i have seen a videographer using just a hand held video cam with external light and mic for a wedding dinner... didnt really get a closeup look but i think the brackets looks like its diy stuff...

Yeap it is surely possible, as you have mentioned, there are both off the shelf professional alternatives, as well as DIY brackets to fit both light and/or mic.

IF your camera comes with a hot shoe, you can put the light and/or mic there. If you need both, there are Y shaped hot shoe adapters where you can make one hot shoe into two.

Alternatively, those bracket things can be used to attach your mic/light off your hotshoe.

unfortunately my cam got no hotshoe so i guess i will have to diy the brackets liao... byw anyone where i can diy the brackets and where can i get the lights and mic? the videographer i saw was using the light with an external battery i think...

Rode Videomic is a good cost effective option.

Frezzolini lights are good too (but a bit expensive).

Both can be gotten at B&H.

RODE has a local distributor, I'll try dig it up for you tommorrow.

Im not quite sure abt Frezzolini - but the same distributor who sells RODE also sells an LCD verison of a video light - not sure about the effectiveness though.
