I've tried various alternatives like a Pringles cap, tupperware, styrofoam cups. Compared the white balance to that of a grey card.

The broad styrofoam cup used for packing soya-bean curd is the best. In fact, I would say its colour balance beats the grey card!

you mean shoot the styrofoam to get the white balance?

I mean use the cup to cover the lens and shoot the reference image for using Custom White Balance. Try it! (Use Auto White Balance when shooting the reference image).

but you cover the camera lens using the cup, right? in that case, how the camera going to calibrate the white balance close to the actual scene's?white balance preset means that calibrate the white balance near to the current lightning conditions, right?:dunno:

Yes, there is SOME light coming THROUGH the styrofoam, and it is this light which is used to calibrate the white balance.

interesting... thanks for sharing this tip, will give it a try.

thanks! I will use this method again! Yeah hoo hoo!!!

(*again = previously I just measure calibrated using white wall, but later I found that it was not a proper method. a proper method will be using expo disc or paper (kodak?). then I gave up. Now I found a good solution!!! which save me the trouble to get the disc or paper!)

Anyone got results to match mine?
