HI, my 2 cent worth, hope may be of use. Subjected to change and personal opinions.

I used to be working for a local distributor of flash memory who supplied to sim lim / funan / other areas inc orchard, so just some inside information I know. PM me if you want to know respective distributors for respective brands.
Now just quitted my job and helping my former boss to push memory Check out my MO page.

Yes CF card prices are going down for one major reason. All of us at Supplier level have to "sweat" to provide more competitive prices to stores, for Toshiba Hagiwara is sweeping the market by storm, giving retailers very cheap price and yet very good quality.

By "theory" Hagiwara (child company of Toshiba) authorised distributor is Hexon / NCP
Somehow along the way, a store level 6 in sim lim (better not mention to protect forum) managed to directly get from Japan directly and just swept the market. Cathay tried doing that for a while and evey more POWERFUL/kamikaze, luckily did not receive stocks or permission from toshiba to sell, so still managed to get market control.

Popular brands are Ritek Ridata, PQI, Hagiwara, Alpha, Transcend, VM san disk, APD IODATA, etc. maybe chap pa lang brands include eagle tec, edata, digilife, nplus, etc.

IODATA also very interesting story, pm for details. The supplier line very interesting as you see, some of them "joining forces" others I "attack" you behind.. =)

regards,

Yah, interesting info. PM me too pls. So who's side are you on?:bsmilie:

<table border=1> <tr> <td align=right>1x=</td> <td>175</td> <td colspan=3>Via CF Slot</td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td>Hi1</td> <td>Hi2</td> <td>Speed</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan=2>Notebook Hard Disk</td> <td>28,606 KB/s</td> <td>28,721 KB/s</td> <td>163.8x</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan=2>Portable USB2 Hard Disk</td> <td>9,100 KB/s</td> <td>9,100 KB/s</td> <td>52.0x</td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Hagiwara</td> <td>48MB</td> <td>827 KB/s</td> <td>830 KB/s</td> <td>4.7x</td> </tr> <tr> <td>NCP</td> <td>64MB</td> <td>694 KB/s</td> <td>694 KB/s</td> <td>4.0x</td> </tr> <tr> <td>DigiCard</td> <td>64MB</td> <td>673 KB/s</td> <td>676 KB/s</td> <td>3.9x</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Transcend</td> <td>256MB</td> <td>951 KB/s</td> <td>954 KB/s</td> <td>5.4x</td> </tr> <tr> <td>SanDisk</td> <td>1GB</td> <td>940 KB/s</td> <td>936 KB/s</td> <td>5.4x</td> </tr> <tr> <td>IBM Microdrive</td> <td>1GB</td> <td>756 KB/s</td> <td>762 KB/s</td> <td>4.3x</td> </tr></table>

Err.. I probably don't know the meaning of what 1x,12x is in CF speeds... the speed factor I used is based on CDROM speed (1x=175kb/s)

Please note that these tests are obtained from using Nero's 'Test drive speed' utility in the cache menu. Highest 2 speeds aftera few rounds of testing are used. Figures should not be used as official and should be used as an estimate only.

Arrgh... HTML is not enabled...
5.4x 953 KB/s 256MB Transcend
5.4x 938 KB/s 1GB SanDisk
4.7x 829 KB/s 48MB Hagiwara
4.3x 759 KB/s 1GB IBM Microdrive
4.0x 694 KB/s 64MB NCP
3.9x 675 KB/s 64MB DigiCard

Note this is tested using Nero Burining Rom's Preference Menu to test drive speeds. I'm using the CF Slot in my tablet PC. Only excel & Nero is running. Cards are not all formatted, so figures may not be totally accurate.

Hi, my 2 cents worth,

Check out DP review for more information. For what is commonly known X = 150KB/s

Actually this x doesn't tell me for the performance still dependant on the device driving the card

Regards

You're right... I don't know where I get the impression that 4x is 700...
Based on 1x=150KB/s
6.4x 953 KB/s Transcend 256MB
6.3x 938 KB/s SanDisk 1GB
5.5x 829 KB/s Hagiwara 48MB
5.1x 759 KB/s IBM Microdrive 1GB
4.6x 694 KB/s NCP 64MB
4.5x 675 KB/s DigiCard 64MB

Hi, my 2 cents worth hope may be of use. Personal opinions again.

Grab CF 256 from AP now, selling very cheap.

AP supplier actually cleared out a batch of Ridata 256 to AP at a very cheap price last week and they are now selling very very low at about 138+
to 140, do check out the good deals.

As for Crostro*ic, they are selling very cheap do be aware for their prices are exclusive GST

Regards

actually just received a quote from both Cathay and AP.

ridata 256mb is selling at $135 in Cathay w/o GST and selling at $140 in AP with GST. Adds up to be around the same.

But would buy from Cathay as service is much better than the upstarts in AP.

hahahahhahah, This CP. POWER!!!! Really rich people.

Another interesting story I heard
Again my 2 cents worth of pesonal opinion.

The boss is SO RICH that when they organised a Birthday Banquet for their Father, they don't accept other people's Ang Bao.

"Crazy People" =)
Good for us as end user isn't it? =)
