Hi,

Decided to do some search on this, since I heard that the Tokina AF 28-70 f/2.6-2.8 was/is/based on the legendary Angenieux 28-70. This is interesting:-

I've also heard -- again, I don't know how true it is -- that Tokina was
founded by a couple of Nikon lens designers who left Nikon to start their
own company.

Tokina is the newest of the big three (Tamron, Sigma, Tokina) third party lens makers. Tokina was a startup company formed by some former Nikon engineers who decided to form their own lens making company.
