Earlier in the thread, I mentioned I had more aerial photos. My first trip up was in a helicopter, covering the South-East and East coasts. This time, I chartered a micro-light plane for an hour to take me up North and inland as well. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to cover the west coast too, where there is this gorgeous mountain (Le Morne) with an equally stunning lagoon around it. The chap you see is the pilot, not me :)

I couldn't catch the name of this resort, but the pilot claims it's a "7-star" and the best on the island.

This is the side view from my seat. I paid a little extra to have the mechanic remove my passenger door. This meant I could get clear shots without any fuzzy windows between my lens and the view! A bit unnerving though, especially when the plane is banking to the right. All that stopped me from falling out was my 5-point seat belt. Pilot only allowed me to bring just my DSLR + lens on board due to safety reasons (the cockpit was really cramped and he didn't want me to entangle anything accidentally). Secured my camera with a Black rapid strap and a handstrap, which was just as well cos the headwinds were really strong especially when I leaned outside the cockpit to shoot, which was very often! I used a 35mm lens for the whole ride. Any wider and I would have had problems with the propeller, wing or wheel in the frame when composing.

Anyone who is keen to do this if going to Mauritius one day can PM me for more details.

Here you can see (an aptly named) Longbeach Resort. The East Coast as you can see has nice sandy beaches. By the way, there are no private beaches in Mauritius and all are accessible to the public.

Thanks! It's a dream holiday destination depending on what you want out of it. If its for shopping or fine-dining, then it's not a good place. If its for the outdoors, such as lagoon fishing, scuba-diving, big-game fishing, mountain-biking, kite surfing, golf etc, or just getting away from the hustle n bustle of stressful Singapore, then it's fantastic :)

As if the beautiful beach is not enough, many of these villas have individual pools.

Coin de Mire, in the North. The pilot ascended to 2000 feet and told me if the plane's engine died for some reason, the plane could glide for almost 4 kilometres, enough to make it back to the mainland for a landing (the micro-light plane can land on any grass strip). Quite reassuring...

Port Louis. This perspective reminds me of 'Pearl Harbour'...

Ok, this is the last photo for this series. I went tandem skydiving and got the best view ever! Had to leave my gear behind on the ground unfortunately, hehheh. This photo was captured using a GoPro HD camera strapped to the instructor's wrist.

Thanks to all who visited and viewed this thread, and for the kind comments.

Nice series. Will consider going there in future.
