Anyone got any images from the RD-1 to show? Would be interested on how it performs with the CV lenses.

Do a google on photo.net leica forum. Lots of ppl have it. Or go to www.rangefinderforum.com
u'll have better luck there mate. How much is one now anyway?

Hi SK,

I wanted to see images from our local talent and to ascertain who are the lucky Singaporeans who own this cam.

It's not on sale here. About $5000 in the US and $4400 in HK.

When are you picking yours up?

Cheerios,
T

I would rather wait for Leica-M digital back. :D

They seem a plenty here in the uk. Just not my price range. Works out to be about 6k SGD here. The M-digital is a good idea, just that if leica persists in doing their R&D at the same speed as they have in the last 50yrs, then i'd rather not hold my breath waiting. Think of all the shots wasted. The 1.5x crop erks me a little though

I saw in Japan a few times in Yodobashi

Its around $3000 ++ to $4000 forgot the price.

I still think that its not value for money.

It's a hard choice given the fact that there are no alternatives at the moment. I quite agree that it doesn't represent great value for money and that used copies are still not abundantly around. There have been quite a bit of QC issues with the rangefinder and viewfinder/film pane alignment too.

I have a feeling Zeiss would release a digital Ikon before Leica ever gets around to thinking of a digital M... I'm afraid to even think of their price when they do.

Oh well, still a little undecided but at the moment, the hong kong prices seem the most attractive.

Altezza, any problems with the rangefinder calibration and viewfinder alignment on your unit? Hot/stuck pixels? I hear the issues are plenty.

Is about HK 40,000 for the body only.

Actually, it's HK$19,000 when I checked last week.

is it the RD-1 body, the lens or the photog, why do all the shots look so 3-dimensional compared with most typical DSLR shots?

So far no. Just had a chance to play with it again - cannot get it out of my brother's hands - but then again he has the main collection of lenses.

I hear Epson has rectified their problems and later batches are less affected. I had checked mine thoroughly on the spot when I got it, brought my laptop, etc - spent an afternoon in the HK shop picking up quite a few other things so they didn't really mind. My friend was there and found one with a slightly non-horizontal viewfinder - but bought another unit with no problems. I got it for about $21,000HK a few months ago.

I will be in HK in May to pick up another unit. They have the Voigtlander viewfinders in stock as well.

It's mostly 2 things, the photog - picking up the right subjects, and the lenses. The 3-D effect is due to the lenses ability to demonstrate 'tonality', something which people were doubtful about when it came to a digital format.

You could also spend hours in the darkroom playing with so many kinds of papers, and other techniques to enhance the effect as well. But if you are already familiar with what the Elmars, Summicrons, Summiluxes, and other M glass can do, this body is not too bad in bringing out some of the same qualities.

I bought one, borrowed my brother's Leica lens collection, less than a week later he 'borrowed' the Rd-1. Never saw it again after 3 months.......

It is interesting to note that even the cheap russian Industars and Jupiters produce very nice images, comparable to the astronomically priced Leica glasses.

I just picked up a FED-2/Industar 61 and a Yashica GSN, I have a feeling that they'll be coming out with pretty decent shots. stay tuned, I'd post some examples when I get around to buying a scanner.

Don't need to buy scanner lah, just send to KEX to scan. $6 a roll only, cheap cheap. High res somemore.

$3k for a D70 sensor ??

The convenience of having my own scanner outweighs the importance of super hi res scans, besides, it's cheaper in the long run.

Terrence, you obviously haven't scanned stuff in a while. It takes me at more than an hr to scan in 5-6 photos and do the necessary noise removal and stuff. If i had a reliable and cheap service like KEX in london, i'd go for it immediately. Honestly, save yourself the trouble and get some sleep instead!
On the long run, i think u'll be happier using a leica mate! Go for it! hehe!
