how come nobody talks about this? Anyone owns one?

It's a pity that it's only released in Japan. ;(

I know benny is going to get one when he goes up japan...

The R-D1s already costs more than $3,000.

Never felt like its worth to buy any of the R-d1 x/s at brand new prices. With a little bit more, can go for a 2nd hand M8

But in the case of the Rd-1x, i think you'll be hard pressed to find a second hand piece.

I think its the price that puts everyone off this camera. A brand new r-d1x from Japan will set you back USD$2800-3000. And thats a ridiculous price to pay for a body that's 98% similar to the r-d1 released 5 years ago. Same sensor ! only got new grip, able to use SDHC cards and a slightly bigger lcd (which can no longer rotate).

If you are looking at this camera, you should consider getting a 2nd hand r-d1 or r-d1s. Put up a WTB on the buy and sell, there are some guys who would be willing to sell one to you for around S$2300-2600. Thats how I got my 2nd hand r-d1s. I love the camera btw, and its about half the price of a 2nd hand M8, and 1/3 the price of a new M8 so good value for money in that sense. Quality wise, its very different from the M8 of course, the r-d1s is more "film like" in a sense, but let me put it this way, you pay half the price for the camera but the quality is definitely not half of the M8, just "different". I have to mention that personally I like the ergonomics of the r-d1s better then the M8 though. And the best thing, you can change all your settings - WB, resolution, AE, shutter speed and ISO without going into the menus. In fact, you can shoot with out even using the lcd at all which is what i love best about this camera.

Here's the latest pricing at Fujiya Camera in Tokyo.

Apologies for the crappy cell phone shot.

Wow... $3,900+ for the R-D1x.
The viewfinder prices are even more scary... $540 - $610 each !!

yeah, almost can buy a Leica M8 already especially in UK with the 500 pounds rebate.

The nice thing is you need not bother with the 6-bit codes or clumsy UV/IR filters

Zeiss metal/glass viewfinder

i think that the best news with the launch of the RD1x is that they are not abandoning the digital rangefinders, at least not yet. the previous announcement that epson was ceasing support of the RD1 and the RD1s some time back was one of the major reasons why i sold mine. but there are sexy rf features on the RD1, and the output is actually really good.. and yes, best is that no need for expensive uv/ir fiilters!!

That was my exact same comment to benny this afternoon...

I was pleasantly surprised the 6 mega pixel files from his japanese digital RF looks so good... neat from the camera some more...

Cheers,

NO MORE DIGITAL RF FOR ME ! UNLESS IT'S A FULL FRAME... :bsmilie:

Mark your words, chiif-you MUST buy M9 when it comes if it's FULL frame:bsmilie:

Wow.. The price is so expansive !!!

Hope the CPU is faster now.

so how can I buy one without having to go to Japan???

That's provided that I don't have to sell my kidney...

Most of the time things directly from Solms I have to sell my kidney & cornea to afford them.
