I think u're meant to strap the batt to ur belt or sth. You'll probably break the mount if u attached it directly. =P

HMm.... read the thing but US$130 w/o shipping is abit too much for me to afford.

Trigger Happy, any way you can show us how you built it/build it for us? :P

Cheers

i do not mind pairing with others for shipping this EP2. now sing dollar strong so still worth the money at USD$130. heard used to be SGD$250+-.

Here are the pics! :)

You'll notice that the switch is in a little black basket of sorts, that's salvaged from an aquarium plant holder. you can use anything to protect the solder joints and also provide a secure base for the switch. The switch is optional, but as i'd said before, its safer to turn the power on or off entirely to prevent shorting when connecting the battery clips or inserting the dummy batts into the 5600. i've also tested this set up with the 1200 maco ring flash. works like a charm ;)

btw the battery weighs 700grams. i usually use the PD70x's pouch to secure it onto my belt, but when using my lowepro sbo, i put it into a pouch at chest height.

May not worth it for pairing for singapore order, as two person will excede the S$400 limit and need to pay the 5% GST. Unless you can get even more KM user involve.

It definately works great.... good for you.

For me.. an electronic idiot, will stick to the idea of EP-2.. hahaha... looks better too... no offence but in Wedding, looks is one thing too.. haha..

uh.. yeah... the spiral cable is pretty impressive, the battery and switch wires etc are all hidden in the pouch. only the black cable going to the flash is visible. that's prob why some ppl mistook me for pro haha... just a thought, how much additional power does the EP-2 provide in terms of time-between-batt-change?

not sure, here the spec.

The EP-2 battery pack provides increased external power to the the 5600HS (and older versions) flash. Reduces flash recycling time and increases the total number of flashes. Uses 6x AA batteries; Alkaline, NiMH or Lithium.

Pretty sure under normal circmstances for 5600HS and EP2 running, to cover a 10 hours of wedding is more than sufficient. Because most of the time, flash is not trigger for full flash so not bad.

In a case of full flash, I might have to count it... I will do some testing when I am back..

Need to buy more NiMH batteries...

it was the frustration of having to charge so many batts (plus having to plan and charge well ahead so that i have 3 sets for a long shoot; coz they take so long to charge) that drove me to this diy. sounds like the EP2 solves the problem, although you'd still need 10 AAs - erm... isn't that an odd number to charge (3 cycles) unless you have one of those super-duper chargers that can take like 8 batts at a go?

another issue, is, need 10 same mAh rating batteries, probably best is same brand and batch to have better consistency, but I hope with so much power, the flash won't stop working just becasue of 2-3 among the 10 batteries flat.

buy a ikea (varta) 10 AA pack for about 3 bucks, then solve the problem liao...

you'll be changing batts every 15 mins. ever tried disposables in your flash? their lifespan is even shorter than NiCDs. not to mention they're darn environmentally-unfriendly too... i'd rather stick with my mod or the EP-2 and not worry about missing moments when i'm busy reloading batts... hee....

hahaha... s*** means more money going out for NiMH... currently have 20 x Sanyo batteries.. 2100, 2300, and 2500 mAH. I am sure combining is fine. All it means is that when the individual battery is out, it will reduce the capacity... still faster than just having 4 NiMH in the flash alone.

The lead acid battery is great as it will be faster... just charge 1 battery.

Well, nothing is perfect.. you choose one and stick with it.
