Embarking on a Short Film Making Journey

Hi all! I am a noob in this area of film making. Anyway, I thought of sharing my first short here.

Do take a look and comment and even subscribe to my youtube channel. I have more shorts coming up.

Also I would love to collaborate with fellow local short film makers and soundtrack/music peeps. Afterall, every film needs its sounds.

Shot using Canon 650D and a monopod.

Enjoy!

nice try.

i would like to give credit to the actor and the actress, they are very natural.
but i find the frame has too much jerking. need to improve on this. :)

Work on the exposure and color. The composition is very flat, it doesn't have enough depth to make it look sweet and cute (for the theme you're going for). All your shots are mostly wide and medium shots, try to zoom in at maximum to get a closer shot and also a shallower depth of field. Get a tripod if you can't hold your camera for long. Also it would be good to have to some talking (Just a few sentences will be good though) and keep a lookout at your audio levels. Keep shooting!

The actress used to work in Night Safari.
Nice video by the way!

Needs some work on the editing too, e.g. at 00:20 and 2:05.

The girl looks like the chinese girl in Jackie Chan's Karate Kid.

Thanks for all for the feedback. Most certainly in need of improvements. :)

I have my 2nd short coming up. Will post it here once I upload it on my Youtube channel.

Btw, I was going for more of a wordless short for this one and the next. Yet to invest on an external mike. Haha..

I was using a monopod for the first time. Same goes for the camera - first time operating it. But yup. Will definitely work on those weaknesses.

QueenKiz>>> By producing this short clip, you learnt a lot. As you progress, there are so many areas that you need to cover and interesting to learn. Speaking from my own personal learning journey. Nothing beats getting down and dirty. In my humble and newbie opinions, you may want to consider these factors.

- Camera movement
- Framing composition
- Colouring

Based on your clip, these are things that you should look into and explore them for your next one. You can check out my signature. There's where I documented my learning journey and sharing my mistakes. There are also links whom I look up to and learn from. Vimeo Video School is a very very good place to start with.

Whatever it is, don't forget to have fun and enjoy what you are doing.

Good effort on the video. It just lacks the storyline and the punch.

Keep your videos coming!

my 2nd video after all the feedback given. still no proper audio due to lack of equipments.

I realized that there are some youtube channels that provide good tips in terms of filming too.

Not just watching filming tips improves your skills. Watch more movies and tv shows with good story and cinematography improves your visual creativity. You can try search for freddiew, corridordigital, filmriot, indymogul, devinsupertramp to name afew. Commercials help too, the really good ones. I recommend the MillChannel and look that their videos. Very creative

Keep on shooting
