turn off all the lights in the house and stay in the room with my wife............................ and enjoy a romantic candle lit dinner (packed foods from hawker center)

Do what cats will normally do when the light is off :bsmilie:

Catch mice :bsmilie:

The population of Singapore will increase every Earth Hour. :bsmilie:

If you are a tom cat you'll jump on the roof to chase lady cats. :bsmilie:

Ho ho ho, seems like very few people care this year.
Fashionable feel-good environmentalism eventually gets out of fashion.

Earth hour is like donating 1 cents to help the victims of the tsunami :(

People with common sense will know this will not help.

If people want to save Earth, they should remove their air-con instead of turning the room temperature to 20 deg in door :bsmilie:

It's actually worse.

There have been studies in the UK showing when Earth Hour happens, there is a drop in electricity demand leading to a slowdown of power generators. But when Earth Hour is over, the generators speed up to meet the surge in energy demand. During this time the co2 produced more than cancel out the co2 savings during Earth Hour. So Earth Hour actually causes more co2 to be released.

Also, the candles that people love so much during Earth Hour? Each of those release more co2 than the use of a single incandescent light bulb lit for 1 hour.

So it's not like donating 1c to tsunami victims. It's more like robbing them then patting ourselves on the back. Congratulating ourselves for indulging in such a meaningful, noble activity.

IMO the hour is part of the general effort to highlight the need to conserve power.
How many of us leave our equipment on standby all the time?
Or just don't turn off our PCs for example?

Power is still cheap in SG, and we all can help. Even if it's one less light turned on, makes a difference if it is multiplied many times over.

Powered up General Electric GE90-115B high-bypass turbofan‎ for engine ground run to ~ 110,000 pounds of thrust and watch it gaggle 280 kg of Jet A fuel per minute. One of the most economical and fuel efficient high-bypass turbofan‎ around in terms of Thrust Specific Fuel Consumption (TSFC).

But cannot run for too long though while stationary else it start ripping apart the tarmac. :bsmilie:

Wow 280kg per engine !!! How much does the 2 engine consume during the engine to full thrust check? 100kg ?

Approximately several thousand pounds or a ton or so for those monsters in a high power engine ground run test that last just several minutes.

We can only punch them up close to derated / reduced takeoff thrust one at a time as the brakes and wheels for the landing gear are not designed to withstand that much amount of force else they start grinding or slipping away.
