When using wireless flash such as 3600 or 5600, the built-in flash will fire too.
This could be undesirable as we might just want to side-light the subjet.
Could we just cover the built-in flash while it fires, so that only the wireless flash will illuminate the object? Any side effect and what are others settigs to take note of?

the built-in flash is the trigger for the wireless flash.

when the built-in flash fires the camera shutter is still not open.

o.... so the built-in actually pre-illuminates the objects for the wireless to take reading before the latter actually fires? or it is simply a "triger" which has no effect on the wireless flash intensity at all?

what if we want both flashes to fire simultaneously?

Hiee...

The On board flash may be put to ratio mode where you can choose 1:2 or 2:1 where you can create a real tonal lighting with one side illumination and one frontal.

Its up to your creativity to dampen either flashes to get the different effect - using colored film or even tissue for softening the flash ....

Just something to share...

me

Oh the Dynax 7 allows u to choose? My 505si is fixed at 1:2 ratio if I use wireless. :) BTW is $990 for a 2nd hand Dynax 7 okay? I asked at Alex but he was willing to offer my 505si for only $200. Cos they sold the 505si at only $300. :(

if u are into portrait/studio, or if u are using multiple flashes, the answer is "yes".
