Dust inside the viewfinder

I dunno how it got there but there's a speck of duct in corner of my 5D's viewfinder. Its a bit distracting and irritating. Anyone is in the same situation and has a solution to remove it?

hehe in my case, i got a tiny curl o short hair (probably from eyebrow)... tried blowing softly at the mirror and the reflecting thingie on top of it but still there, must be stuck between viewfinder and the reflecting thingie. wonder how stuff gets in there

Try using a blower on the mirror. If still can't and you really can't it stand it send it to Sony to get it clean. Here's a diagram of the viewfinder:

Don't worry about it.. you should concentrate on what is the subject... don't worry about the little specks on your viewfinder because it will get there eventually.


I have 2 or 3 spots on my viewfinder, but too busy composing, never take notice of them until I am cleaning my camera and got nothing to do but worry about them.

i have that too, i think its dust on the pentaprism the gets there when you clean the CCD. as Hart said, just ignore it. but if it becomes a real bother, then better to send it to Sony for servicing. this is one DIY i don't recommend unless you know what you're doing. don't forget you're exposing the insides to dust when (and if) you open up the top. could make it worse

Thanks guys. Guess its not really affecting anything - just that its a sign my beloved 5D is now no longer under the 'brand new' status.

first cut is the deepest. after that it doesn't matter really. i took another look and realised that my viewfinder is speckled with lots of spots, if you didn't start this thread i wouldn't have taken such notice with mine hahaha...

Sorry only for Dynax 5D and 7D. ANyway I'm a Minolta user since 2002.

u can check the semi-transparent plate inside the cam, look on top juz opposite the reflex mirror, maybe some dust stick on there. u can try to blow or use swab to clean it.

That's the focusing screen. It can scratch quite easily. I had one replaced on my Dynax 5 when I tried cleaning it. Just try blowing it or lightly dust it off with a soft brush.
