I used to have Brillance bought from sgcamerastore. Fantastic. It has the temperature control but filmsy connector. Broke mine after 1 day use. But got spare x 1. Now, I am using LEDGO comes with 3 colour filters. Bought from RedDotPhoto.
I can't agree with this at all. LED, as an emerging technology is still far from mature. Having bought and used 5 different kind of LED lights at different stages, I can say that each of them is different. I have one from Brilliant which only has 4 LED but uses high-power ones to give a better throw. Smaller ones like F&V Z96 can be 'stacked' together to create bigger sources of light so and they also come with a built-in reflector that enhances the output. Stacking 4 of them together (4x96) LEDs, I can easily match a single 1x1 foot 600 LED.
But the thing that concerns me most is the colour accuracy of the LED lights. Most of the cheaper brands I've noticed, tend to give off a green-cast - which can give unsightly skin tones. Even within the F&V Z96 there are variations. The cheaper ones you get from the internet, use (from my experience) lower grade LEDs that have more greenish tinge. The more expensive ones you get from the shop tend to have better QC over the LEDs so they give a more accurate colour. Having said this, the nature of the LED source itself, does not produce a continuous colour spectrum and until the technology fully matures, will unlikely be able to match other sources for colour accuracy, such as tungsten lighting.
I suggest to TS that he/she try out different brands to see the functionality and quality of the light colour before buying - and not just go on number of LEDs.
the Z96 is quite alright and versatile. When you get from the shop, make sure you ask them if its from the distributor rather than some wholesaler from the internet. If you want the best brand for LED lighting (as in professional grade), try Zylight, Dedolight (Ledzilla) and LightPanels.
Went through a few lights before, but so far I find the 312 LED on eBay a great bargain, it's really huge and the light output is tremendous. I've got 2 and I've only used 1 so far on all my projects coz it's so powerful. I'm planning on selling one to upgrade to a bigger piece, the 508LED for production stuff.
I bought 2, one as spare, and I'm actually planning to sell the other to a friend but he's been in the red lately so may be if you're looking to buy one, here's your chance.
