Why exclude the 1Ds MK2? Some of the gears posted here far surpass the cost of owning one, in fact several.

Cheers,
Well, to be able to own a piece of equipment is pretty subjective.

Since I finance my own gear, I list what I can afford to buy. I'm sure most do.
Some here run their own companies, and get sponsorships for equipment easily.
Some prolly have family assets of a couple of million bucks.
Some are prolly students and the money for their gear comes frm their rich parents where cameras are toys.
Some prolly juz won Group 1 Toto, sole winner.

Different ppl, different lives. 1 kind of rice feeds a hundred people.

So even if someone puts the 1DsMkII as his affordable gear, I'm hardly surprised. :)

dun worry, 1Dsmk2 will be made more affordable by september.:)

If Sony screws up in September, would the Jedi Council accept this prodigal son back on the Jedi Council? Or do I have to start off as a padawan and go thru the trials to be promoted to a Jedi Knight and make my way up as a Jedi Master once again? ;p :bsmilie:

I think you missed my point and perhaps I did not phrase my comment properly.

I was wondering why was the 1 Ds Mark II excluded when obviously some of the dream gear/setup listed in this thread itself would have cost more than owning a 1 Ds Mark II.

It was not a comment about what and who can afford, but questioning the logical behind it's exclusion by the thread starter when dreaming about one's ideal gear list.

Cheers,

p.s. what is the meaning of prolly?

Hobbiest have to be careful with $ if not divorce case might rise......

sg lazy short form for "probably" ;)

I thought it was a noun from the way it was used. Hence the query.

Cheers,

What would be your dream gears if you can affort excluding the 1Ds II?

Canon 5D
Canon 30D
17-40L
24-70L
70-200L IS
100-400L IS
550EX

Id this a dream combination?

On your exlclusion of the 1DsMk2, this "Dream Gear" thread become impossible. How can you exclude something that most dreamt of? Then, this is not the dream list!

On your drea combination, why all the zooms??? At least get the 16-35 instead of the 17-40. And why the 550EX? This list is well, very sensible, lacks the dreamy quality.

The 1Ds Mark II is already a dream for many people....so exclude it...
Why 550EX? Because I already have it and it serves me very well till today after 5 years.
The 17-40 f4L is worth every cent I paid for hence I don't dream about 16-35 because I seldon shoot f2.8 with wide.

Dreams means different thing to different people....Canon offers a lot to dream about...
