Any EOS 80D users here sucessfully tried using XLR adapters / micpres to isolate the audio into separate left / right channels?
That is, sending a strong signal into the left channel only without any signal going into the right channel of the 80D?
It seems Canon has gone out of its way to engineer a mic port for both the M5 and the M6 that is essentially mono but has a 'safety' track function. Send a signal into the left channel and the right channel will be attenuated by about 20% level of the left. Send a signal in the right and the left becomes the safety track. There is no way to isolate the channels even if you actually use a mono tip-sleeve jack!
I wonder when Canon started introducing this new "secret" function and if they plan to use it as a defacto freebie in their future DSLRs.
Hopefully, other manufacturers will not be copy this wonderful function otherwise makers of mixers for DSLRs will have to follow in juicedlink footsteps.
