Do you practice Lens-M Body pairing ?

hi.

a quick question for some of the more seasoned M-owners here,

do you practice Lens and Body pairing ? Do you designate certain
lenses on one M body and no other bodies ? Or do you freely
use the lens on all your M depending on your mood ?
Do you dedicate one lens to one body, if so, why ?

thanks

Sort of. I have 2 m bodies -- ZI and a M6 0.85. The vf on the the ZI does not flare and is much superior for night time shooting, so my fast lens (c-sonnar) is welded onto that). I also load Tri-x and push it to 1250 regularly on that rig. Works like a charm.

The M6 is better for daytime use (for me), so it goes with my c-biogon. I usually load 100 ISO film.

Ofcourse I can change this on a whim, esp if I am shooting color film. some lenses are better for color i feel -- the c-sonnar being my fav.

I have the Elmarit 28/2.8 Asph perpetually on my R-D1s.... its a setup that i've grown into and really like currently!

i used to practice all my lens on all my bodies. i recently realised that some
of my lenses are underutilised while some get alot of practice time. alot of
factors really, some are formfactor, ie. a small Leica CL deserves a smaller
lens, the iiif fits the collapsible summar. and then there is the issue of crop
factor on the rd-1, which means the 35mm would sometimes be more
desirable than the 50mm.

i am still formulating which lens for which bodies. interesting exercise.

btw, i recently tried filter rings (remove the glass) as a substitute for the hood.
the 35mm has vignetting issues which is still okay since i tend to darken my corners.
the 50mm lens has no issues at all. i do this to make a smaller form factor and
prevent vf blockage.

For me its the aesthetics. I used to pair them black on black, chrome on chrome.

Having sold all the black bodies (less a R3A), its down to 50 and 90 on the M3 and everything else on the M2.
R3A is only for the 40mm cron-c.

Anyone with a chrome 50 lux v3 E46 to trade for black, do let me know ;)

Not so much. Though sometimes I'll have the M8 with a longer lens (e.g. 90mm = ~120mm) and the M9 with a 50mm (or even wider). Using the crop factor (or lack thereof) to their advantage.
