I think 23watt is not enough for big items or portrait . Tried to use 45watt or 55watt OSRAM. It will be better coverage.
;)

sorry i still can't found this for 45watt or 55watt OSRAM.
if you know where can get , pls reply here.
thanks :bsmilie:

i think depend how you fixed , how many bulbs to fixed in 1 soft box.

for me is not that good, cause too heat already..

the bulb is always on.. it's not that flash light , when u press shutter the flash will be on & off.

wow, nice DIY project! too bad i got not much space (rent room) otherwise try. to increase brightness can put 2 bulbs in one? dangerous or not?

I'm using CFLs myself, except I made a DIY light tent out of a cardboard box. (the details of that can be easily googled) CFLs generally don't get very hot, though my recommendation is buying multiple small CFLs (25w, maybe) instead of one big one (45-65w). Firstly they suck less power if you don't have them all on. Secondly you can change light intensity (affecting a bit of light quality) simply by switching one off. Thirdly it costs a lot less to buy a bank of small CFLs instead of a single big one. Moreover, it costs less to replace if you drop the bulb or it blows out for some reason.

IMO tracing paper is relatively safe IF and only IF you're using low powered CFLs and you use the paper as a diffuser/gobo instead of as the front of a light box. While CFLs generate comparatively little heat, paper is highly flammable and I can't guarantee that they won't start a fire with extended use. It's also a good idea to keep the house's fire extinguisher within easy reach in case of electrical fires or other fires caused by an accident in the DIY studio. Oh yes, and pay close attention to the power ratings of your lamps and sockets. If they're rated for 25w, please please please do not fit them with 65w bulbs. Something's likely to overheat and go kaput.

Mr Rain, did you used any transformer for your bulb?
My 23walt energy saving bulb fused after 15mins of usage. Really save energy......
