OK i admit,i have itchy hands
So when i chanced upon these threads

Very stiff summarit,DIY or not

Summarit disassembly

i wanted to try disassembling my Summarit
Apparently it was not as easy as i thought
Couldn't find much info on the web, nothing on youtube as well
so i decided to document it while i was disassembling the lens

1st of all,you need to remove the optics group from the focus group
This can be done by removing the 3 screws below the aperture ring
after you remove the 3 small screws, the front optics group should be able to rotate freely

You also need to remove 1 of the screws on the focusing ring itself
The screw on the focusing ring is a latch cover

the image from MikeL,RFF helped a lot
Rangefinderforum.com

You need to insert a small screwdriver/pin into the hole from the focusing ring and rotate the front barrel until you feel the screw lock the optics group
That is when you can give a twist and unscrew the optics group

This is the picture of the inner ring with the screwdriver holding it

However, before i managed to separate the 2 groups,i had difficulty unscrewing the front barrel.Thats when i though that the 3 screws on the aperture ring was hold it back
thats when the problem started,By unscrewing the screws on the aperture ring, the ring comes loose and you wont be able to change the aperture

so i removed the aperture ring from the barrel

I examined the front barrel and found the small holes where you insert the screws from the aperture ring
The screws will not go in unless they are aligned with the holes

So,i made a marking with a pencil on the barrel, because when you screw back the aperture ring, you cannot see the holes at all
also, there is a big screw on the aperture ring
This screw is where it holds a very tiny ball bearing.Without this ball bearing, there will not be any click stops

Before i did this,i had a very stiff focusing ring. Now that i have disassembled and looked at how the lens works,i found that I'm able to loosen the focusing ring by simply unscrew half a turn on the screws in-between the aperture ring and the focusing ring
It may look simple from the pictures, but i had a really hard time figuring out how the parts came together

This is by no means a repair guide.Just a reference if you encounter any issues like stuck aperture ring or stiff focusing ring on your old summarit

awesome stuff... Like you, I too have very itchy fingers. I got a Jupiter 8 lens with stiff focus and oily blades so I told myself why not rip it apart to do a clean up... I screwed up my first time. Cleaned everything but my aperture ring is stiff as hell... So I asked Brian Sweeney about it and he told me roughly what to do... Now my Jupiter 8 is a nice little lens to shoot with... Sometimes, it pays to be a little adventurous...

Thanks!Did you panic when you got the stiff aperture ring?I sure did when i found i couldnt change the aperture lol

I already prepared for the worst... After all, it's a cheap lens so it really doesn't matter but I didn't want to let it 'die' that way... So I decide to give it another shot. Luckily, I got back in good shape... Hahaha
