Dirty bokeh?

So I was playing around with my 50mm and I took some random bokeh photos and I got these:

What could cause those specks? Could it be dust on my lens or sensor? I checked my lens and I'm sure the elements are pretty dust free but I know my sensor is getting dusty already.

hmm i always thought if you shoot small aperture, you will see those dust spots...

these bokehs shot with wide apertures?

then your sensor must be so dirty!

don't think it's dirt leh...
But no harm getting sensor cleaned just to be sure.
To me looks like imperfection in the lens coating.

I dunno for sure... hehehe am not an optics engineer...

Check your lens and filter, if nothing wrong, clean your sensor

Mine too but it only gives nice round bokeh at f/1.8

Guess it's time to head down to Canon CSC to clean my sensor since my lens have no problems and I'm not using any filter.

Your dust specks do not seem to be on the same location..As ZerocoolAstra said, it looks like some coating imperfections which appear at specific light conditions..I might be wrong, but check whether your sensor's free of dust as well..

It's not your camera's sensor. There are tiny specks of dust in your lens that are virtually invisible under room light. Use a torch light to verify. This tiny specks of dust does affect "bokeh" quality. No matter how hard or how clean your sensor is, the answer lies on your lenses.

Hmmm, I've never seen anything quite like this.

It is definitely not ISO noise. I think it is some very small dust on the elements, probably the near the outermost element, since the effect is somewhat like those "bokeh modifiers".

I personally dont think its imperfect coating.. I have a zeiss lens that had on a few occasions, captured something like this before.. and zeiss is well known to have good coatings (mine wasnt some 20yr old zeiss lens btw, pretty new)

the most likely cause could be a dirty rear lens element.... dirt on rear lens element will manifest in bokeh one...

use a blower/lens pen on it + blow blow the sensor abit... and see how it goes.... however, if it happens to be a big piece of dust on the rear element INSIDE the lens... then u ned to seek CSC help...
