yesterday i was at funan song brothers and i had enquire about dynax 7D and i was told that the lens for film camera will not work gd on digital camera .

how true is it ?

not so true. film lenses lacks coating, so it might lack the lack of internal reflections. but so far, my experiences with film lenses, pretty good, i totally dun see any diff.

Me too, I dont see any diff when using D or non-D lenses on 7D.

Not true lar... they just want to sell you more stuff and earn more money...

Tell me if you see a different from the images below (one with beercan 20+years old film days lens) and one is with Latest 70-200 f2.8 APO G SSM.

Song brothers are well known for having a great selection, and ripping you off whenever they can. Avoid them.

for what i see , there isn't any diff .

just make sure the mounts fit, Minolta has the old MC/MD mount and then the A mount, which Sony has adopted too. the older mounts require an adapter (quite rare) and you lose AF.

Absolutely untrue and then some...

All the A mount lenses will work... AF, aperture settings, works perfectly... even 3rd party. Only Sigma has some problems cos they reverse engineer the A mount and even then a simple rechip is all that it takes to get it working with the 7D.

What the salesman was trying to say is that film lenses are not designed for digital sensors... that part is true. Hence in terms of quality of image, it's not going to be as good as a specifically-designed-for-digital-lens... this part is also true... however, since most of us hardly print larger than A4 or 8"x12", we're not going to see a difference... it's only in very large prints and when u pixel-peep at 100% on the computer that u might see any difference if u know what to look out for...

Otherwise, the above point is moot... so get the 7D and get some shooting done...
