I was looking for Canon 420 EX flash today and one of the staff at Cathay photo told me that those shops which can offer the flash at a cheaper price are selling those so-called "export quality" stuff - ie stuff meant for export and not for local consumption. Does anyone know if there is any difference between buying export quality and normal ones? Those export quality stuff are still covered by waranty rite?

from my understanding....export means no warranty or whatsoever....

export set is usually under a one year warranty by the shop u purchase.

Eg. TCW sells alot of export set. meaning to say, should the set break down during warranty, send back to them & they will send to the agent as a retail agent. however, after the warranty period, U can sent direct to the company (local agent) for servicing

In terms of quality, I've got no comments. One of my camera body is an export set which i see no different from any local set.
I think U juz got to be careful who U buy it from. I've got no qualms with TCM but if it's one of those shop from Sim Lim, I will rather not try!

;)

Thanks a lot jtnet for your opinion! :) Since u think tat TCW is reliable (I bought a Canon lens from them before and so far, it is still working well 2 years after I got it) I think I can trust the stuff from them.

I wouldn't trust blindly. Their 2nd hand products are only as good as the condition the previous owner sold to them. So you still need to check yourself.

willfoo is right ! U must know the product well before buying especially if it is a second hand product.

U yrself must be comfortable with them & not me. personally i know quite well so even when the product is not meeting the bench mark, they even refuse to sell to me.

As for export set, which i spoke off ealier is what it applies to TCW. not sure abt how other shop work. I've heard of story of some Sim Lim Retailers, who actually change some internal component and sell it at a lower price as export set.

Hence, U must know who U're buying from!
