detoriation of chemcials?

just now when i was developing my film, i found out that my fixer was in dirty black color !!!! it was kinda late since i already poured in. The result ... was fine ... *phew ...


but my main concern is is the dirty black color a sign of detoriation?


actually initially when i used the fixer for the very first time, the container (plastic container which was used to store fresh milk) already accumulated dirty black on the bottle inner surface, but the fixer was still very clear, until just now when i saw the fixer, it already becomes dirty black.

i'm using ilford hypam rapid paper & film fixer. It was mixed less than a month ago, used about 3-4 times.

In the past there wasn't any prob when i was using film-only fixer.

It depends on where you store it. I used to keep it in the fridge and it normally last me more than a month.

hello, I'm not sure if it's the deteriotation.
it cld be the silvers. (haven't got time to verify it)
but I do know some that film can really mess up ya fixed making it look dirty.

it won't be difficult to test the fixer.
snip a patch from the undeveloped film and dunk it in the solution, let it stay for @ least 5 mins and watch if the snip will turn clear.

another qns, my developing equip like the reels, measuring jugs has yellow stains due to prolong chemicals use, is it advise to change a new one? Will the stains affect the next developing?

can't really answer that qns, other might be able to help on that.
but if there're stains it'll say that ya didn't was it throughly in the first place!

I'm using shared equipment. it's yellow from age but I've not been able to note any significant harm to my negs and stuff.
