so i bought this 40 packs of 120 format film from ebay, on average about usd$2.50 a roll,
cheaper than the cheapest 400 120 film on freestylephotos which was fomapan 400.

this film has been an enigma...the development info are scant, and noone knows where the film is from.

it arrived today,

a couple of clues:

a. made in eu... ilford and fomapan, and a couple of smaller boutiques like efke etc
b. the font and the word cat.

here is what a fomapan box looks like

here is what a ilford delta 400 box looks like

Even the expiry date is in the same format.

So this film is definitely from Ilford.

I excluded Kentmere as they do not make 120 format.

So this is either a Delta 400, or HP5+ or a modification OEM film.

Opening the box makes, and unwrapping the film:

The logical choice would be to compare the development time of this film with HP5+ and Delta 400,
but unfortunately there is no information. And the only entry in Massive Development Chart is Accufine and
neither corresponded to HP5+ or Delta 400.

The best way is to shoot a roll and develop it...

I have not used HP5+ or Delta 400 previously so I will not be able to compare the grain with this film, but
nevertheless I will choose the longer development time of the 2 films and apply it to this film.

or to develop it in Rodinal stand. Ilford films do well in Rodinal so perhaps this is a viable option for a mystery film.

looking at my previous rolls, i shot this film in 135 format.

the times seem to suggest that for xtol 1+1, it should be 4min 30s - 5mins

(interestingly, the time do not correspond to HP5+ or Delta 400 dev time)

and for rodinal, 45mins was too overdeveloped ( in room temperature).

here is picture, taken on the mighty Olympus XA

while i can't assume that the 135 format and 120 format are the same film, it is a good starting point.
will shoot a 120 roll and publish the results.

cheers!

The updated development chart with the extreme 400 is shown here:

Using the chart as reference, I develop my 35mm extreme 400 in d76 1+1 for 13 mins in 20C with excellent results.

thanks guys for the comment and the link.

based on this, it is very interesting that the d76 times for
Ultrafine Xtreme and HP5+ is only half a minute difference,
for both the Stock and 1+1 Dilution.

My guesstimate is that this is HP5+....to be verified.

Not sure if this film is HP5+, but it does look good for its price :)

I shot a roll of 100ft, I got better results developing it in Tmax dev than HC110. But don't really like it

Care to share your method in maintaining the temperature at 20 Deg C for 1 hour?

hi,

i believe the 100ft 35mm is a different emulsion than the medium format.

I just put the tank inside bucket, pour some cold water into the bucket, after 5-10 mins when temp increase then agak2 put 1-2 ice cube
