DataVideo DN-60

No special comments, works just like the regular dv/hdv cf card module.
Only commendable thing I like is that it operates on AA batts with relatively good batt life.

Thx Dixon.
I guess its affordable? and reliable?
just want to backup my DVX102 recording and easy transfer for editing.
thx

In practical use, I think don't bother with spending more money on external modules. Too leychey to worry abt another recorder. Dangling cables, takes up a coldshoe slot, gotta check if module is running, gotta check if module got enough juice, enough space, cables got come loose, etc...

But considering the competition, I think the unit beats any other similar device in terms of price, size and battery type.

Focus and citidisk are pretty big and bulky, batt life sucks and use propietary batts.
Sony mrc1k use F570/770/970 info lithium batts, and mounting to cam is also a bit of a pain unless u use the Z5/7/S270.

It only cost SG$750 before GST. Expandore is carrying them.

Thx tommy, Just have a quick check on Expandore website n is selling @ $690.. :)

card slot cover keeps coming off which its not suppose to. lol.
apart from that everything else still Ok for me...

Hi Joey,

I tried out the Datavideo DN-60 at one of my friend, and it seems that in HDV mode there are several problems. I tried it on a Sony HVR-Z1, sync-to-tape=off, on 16gb sandisk extreme card (60MB/s) and it seems that if I press "REC" on the Z1, and the camera is in "Save Mode" (the recording head is not spinning), the resulting clip has major issues (tens of second in freezed frames, 30 second clip si displayed in NLE as 1 hour+ clip - of course non usable video etc).

This happens also if while recording, you press "Stop", and then quickly "REC".

I noticed that these problems doesn't appear when using the DN-60 in DV mode.

Since you are from Datavideo, can you tell us if you are working on these problems and is there comming a newer firmware release than the current R10 that would eliminate this problems?

Also, why does in HDV-mode the "pre-trigger" and "time lapse" options missing?

Best regards and have a nice day,
Mircea Coste.

Hi Mirceacoste,

Thanks for the notice, let me forward this to the tech department and see what they say. If we don't get a clear answer we have to forward this to the development department to see if this problem can be resolved with the next firmware release. I'll post the results here.

Best Regards,

Hi Joey,

any news yet?
Do you need additional info to be able to reproduct the issues?

Have a nice day,
Mircea.

Hey Mircea,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I asked our tech support about the DN-60 portable video recorder problem and they had to forwarded it to our main tier 2 tech support guy, Steven .

He did get the email a week ago and I have GOOD news. There is a new firmware coming out today that should resolve the issue with that particular portable video recorder.

I will post the updated firmware today for the DN-60 portable video recorder on our website, not sure what time today but check our website within a couple of days. He said to please have your friend update his DN-60 portable CF card video recorder firmware to the latest version and if the problem continues to send him a direct tech support request via this form:

http://www.datavideo.us/index.php?option=com_rsform&formId=9&Itemid=99999

or call

562-696-2324 and ask for Steven.

and he will communicate with you directly to try to figure out the DN-60 portable video recorder bugs.

Best Regards!

Joey Fiero Perez

Hi Joey,

thanks for your reply. About the firmware update, are you referring to R11 (appeard on 31.01.2011)? Because I already updated the device with it and the problems persist.
Is the firmware version you refer to newer than this?

Kristian.
