Data Recovery

As expected one of our harddrives crashed, literally crashed onto the floor.

so we sent it to a data recovery place and they quoted us $2750 for the recovery!
its a 2TB Lacie Slim Hard drive

does this sound right ?
anyone know any reputable recovery places ?

Try checking if there is any clicking sound coming out of the harddisk if there is then 2k plus is around the market price

if no sound is found most likely its the reader arm got stuck or data corruption which mostly cost less then 1000 to 500 to fix.

Note If its a WD HDD, its a firmware problem getting a replacement board would likly fix your problem. (Lacie make only case not HDD )

Have you tried all of them for a better price ?

2. www.OntrackDataRecovery.com.sg 1800 872 2599
3. www.techdesignconsultancy.com +65 6405-5003

or may be the customer service center of the manufacturer for advise.

Make sure they don't charge you if the data cannot be recovered.
Percentage of data recovery depends on how severe the damages; head-slap (head hits on disk) area cannot be recovered. If you power up the drive it may cause radial scratch .... more data will lost.

Higher chances that the failure involves in a logic thus prices are higher which is about $1K in the market.

data recovery is always very ex!

Good list.
Some recovery will attempt to repair the HDD and then grab the data out.
Some will dismentle the HDD, grab the platters out and put it on a special machine that emulates the enviroment within the HDD.

All these must be done in a clean room, thus the cost.

thanks for the info guys
will report to higher hq and see what decision they come to
thanks again
