Data recorded from Sony PMW-EX1 - compatible with Final Cut Pro?

Hi all,

I'm buying the Sony PMW-EX1 camcorder soon..and present we're using Final Cut Pro on the Mac to edit our footage. However, we've been doing it the old way - DV stream into Final Cut via firewire.

Now that we've gone fully digital, I have a few doubts about the "directivity" of data transfer. My main concern is:

Can we upload the data straight into the computer and have final cut pro recognize it, making the raw footage good for editing straight away, without the need for additional filters/converters (much like loading JPEGs on photoshop and editing them straight away!)

i think for ex1, u still need to convert for fcp but sony does provide a free software to convert the format .

That's correct and you will need FCP 6.0.5 and later which includes the XDCam Ex codec. Like Sam said, you will need to convert the mp4 files into QT movies that can be edited in FCP.
