I am new to this forum but am an avid macro enthusiast. I use the canon G1 and G3 cameras with various accessories.

Here is a trio of my favorite damsel closeups. The first two were taken with a G1 and the last a few days ago with a G3. I attach a pentax 50mm lens in the reverse postition to the canon for these images.

Hope you like them.

I thought I have seen all, your images are very good and detail.

G3 + reverse 50mm lens, hmmm... just like a G3 with multi-elements closeup filter.

Indeed a very good technique!

silly question from a silly amateur :D

If I understand correctly, you can tell the magnification ratio that you are shooting at by deviding the main lense focal length with the reversed lens. Thus, with the canon G1 at full zoom and a reverse 50, the main lense was about 100mm (at full zoom which is essential when using a reversed lense to avoid vignetting) and the reversed was 50mm, so the magnification ratio was 100/50 = 2.0. With the G3, it is 140/50 =2.8.

Now if the lens to be reversed is less than 50mm (such as a 35mm or a 28mm), the magnification would be even greater. While I have been looking for a 35 or 28mm lens to use for this purpose, I am actually not all that excited by the idea, because as the magnification ratio is increased the depth of field is decreased thus making it harder to get a worthwhile shot. In other words, it is difficult enough to get a good image with a reverse 50, with more magnification, the good shots would become even fewer and farther between.

Thus, your question was not silly at all. I hope I have answered clearly.

Mplonsky, your shots are indeed amazing! Keep them coming!   ;)
