Finally! After several false starts, I've managed to convert my old D70 to a pure infrared camera.

This is a quick test shot:
This was taken in overcast, very cloudy (no sun) conditions but take a look at the shot details:
Lens: D70 Kit Lens (Nikkor 18-70mm AF-S f/3.5-4.5G)
Aperture: f/4.2
Shutter: 1/800s
Exp Comp: +1.0 (metering with the replacement R72 is inaccurate, it was 1/1250 with exp comp)
ISO: 200
Focal: 34mm
WB: CWB done with ExpoDisc
Under such conditions, a non-IR-converted camera would require an exposure time of 2 to 3 seconds. This would mean that the camera is now suitable for candid and portrait IR shots.
The actual conversion process was really simple, once you overcome the initial fear. The most difficult part of the conversion was the replacement of the base cover as the rubber USB cap stopper had to be slotted in the right location.
Cheers,
Matt
