I feel that the Nikon 70-300 is a pretty nice addition to your current line-up of lenses. You won't need to get for lenses until you depend something more from you lenses (eg. Fast lenses, macro lenses) The D5100 will serve you well if you do not need the AF motor, however I find that there are other very useful specs features on the D7000 such as 100% viewfinder and AF fine-tune.
Hi mate, thanks for your reply. Yes I feel that once I have the 70-300, I will be sorted lens wise for a while. I guess a macro will be next.!
I agree. The 70-300 lens is worth every cents I paid. The IQ definitely lose to its f2.8 counterparts (70-200), but it is definitely no slouch too. It is a joy to use, solid as a tank. When used outdoors, it works like a charm, but indoors got to pump up ISO a little. Just know its limitation and I m sure it will bring you great joy.
Thanks wolfton, I will be mostly using it outdoors, but I will remember when indoors I might have to work with it a bit..or change lens.! Thanks for making me feel a bit more confident about my decision.
Hi TS!
I was in your exact same position, with the same D60 and 18-55 kit, sigma 10-20, asking myself the exact same question just a couple months ago! It would have been pretty cool to stumble onto this thread back then. I, too, was seriously tempted by the D7000 when i felt tempted to upgrade, but instead thought better of it and purchased a D5100 last week. Its good enough for me, and I'm really content with it. I got the 55-300 because its cheap, to complement the kit. Regardless of your decision both are a pretty good leg up over the D60 and you'll have a good time with either, I'm sure! Cheers!
Interesting! Thanks for your reply, you know what I have been going through the past weeks, haha.! I think like you, I don't need the D7000 right now, although i would like it..but i just have to be sensible..I am really looking forward to getting the new body and lens. It's just this D3200 that's bugging me now, although i still think ill go with the D5100..
