I don't have a D600. I used to own a few Nikon cameras.
Some camera batteries are wired directly to the main electrical points. This soft rubber part twists so that the wire can exit the camera body while the main battery still supplies power to the camera. Could this part be it?
You can see this feature in camera displayed in showrooms. They are permanently powered by the main electrical. The electrical wiring exits the battery compartment through here.
If in doubt, perhaps bring to Nikon Service center?
