Hi guys,
No experience with DSLR but getting one in May. I would like to ask can i set it to auto mode just like those point and shoot camera? Because my aunt would like to use it when going for holiday and know nothing about SLR camera.
Thanks!
yUp! there is auto mode... just point and shoot.
Might as well get her a PnS to use. Lighter and simpler and will certainly give better results for those not familiar with DSLR.

Wide angel  or tele devil  is up to you and situation ;p . Mostly for scenery people use wide angle, but it is not a must.but how about the kit lens setting? how should i adjust it like say for use as outdoor shooting most of the time. wide angel ?

Don't worry. If the D40x is anything like the D40, it will have a pretty good auto-mode. I hand my D40 to my wife to shoot at auto and she came back with very decent pics. Make sure you teach her how to auto-focus if not pics will go off-focus. Just listen for the beep!
okie! im not very sure how to auto-focus too i think is half-press the shoot button ? anyway will need to learn more before pass the d40x to her in May!
Wait she ask.. "How come screen not showing anything?"......Wait she ask.. "How to shoot video?" then you jialat..

Just bring her down to those big electronic shops to try out the camera
If new one, just check exterior. Bring home, read manual and try.ok, anything should i lookout for when buying the camera? like how to check for defects..etc?
i know the price is around $1100+ with some gifts throw in, any idea which shop has the best offer ?
I know which has the best service.

They are selling it at $1130 (inclusive of GST), with a free 2GB SD card. They will give you a high-speed Toshiba SD-card upon request (actually, I think they just give you the Toshiba one anyway). Service is top-notch, and if you pop by on a weekday in the mid-afternoon or around sevenish, you might even get a free photography lesson!
