D40x to D200 questions

Hey guys and gals!
I was recently offered a used D200 with a shutter count of about 70k (!!!) - and i'm pondering if it's worth it. My current setup is a D40x, 18-55vr, sigma 10-20.

First, I'm interested to get a D200 primarily because of the AF drive - I would like to use some of the fast wide primes. What other advantages apart from the better build, possibly faster AF could I expect from it?

Also, how's the battery life? Seems there are many comments on the web about how it sucks battery life dry very fast. This is kind of a concern to me as I'm intending to tour around Australia later this year - intending to backpack - and I'm not sure if I can get power where ever I go. My 40x can fill up about 8-8.5gb of raw shots before it runs out of juice so long as I don't engage the flash.

Finally, 70k shutter used? I can't seem to find a rating for the shutter, would really hate for it to die half way through the trip :( Comments? Perhaps I should I just pass it on since all my lenses work great on my 40x. I was offered AUD850 for it.

If it helps, my current workflow is just raw -> Bibble Pro -> Web

Thanks!

Alvin

If it's any help, I generally get about 300 - 400 shot out of a single charge with minimum chimping. And the shutter should be rated for about 250,000.

Better to get spare batteries if you can't be sure where u can charge up. Alternatively, get the grip which allows you to use AA batteries in a pinch.

If you're backpacking, you should just stick with your D40X.

i think it';s ridiculous to sell it at AU850 for a d200 with 70k SC. Top up a little bit more you could get yourself a brand new one!

definitely not worth it. maybe 7k shutter count can consider.. not 70k!

I've backpacked with my D50 with the 18-200mm and still find that it's a heavy setup.

Currently, I'm using a D200 with the 18-200mm for use here in Singapore and looking for another small DSLR for backpacking as I've sold my D50.

HTH.
