D300S or Canon 7D worthwhile to buy now?

Any idea which one should my friend go for? He is not English proficient and that why I am asking on behalf of him.

He wanted the video capability and wants to check which is a better option. But being a nikon fan I like the feel of the sturdy body.

The canon version also has a sturdy body btw...only their entry level ones are "less sturdy"
Since u listed under Nikon, chances are that people may suggest nikon purely cause this is a nikon community you are reaching out to...

Am a nikon user myself..but i guess it also depends on what is your friend looking for...i must say the 7D is quite an impressive camera too, so both are pretty alright i guess..best advise is to have a feel of both cams and see which your friend prefers..? to be fair both are able to produce the same images with the right skill sets...if your friend wants the option of more megapixels for better ease of cropping and availability of slightly higher ISO .....guess canon would be the choice....else.................u can convince him that its better to get nikon since u alr have lenses which he could borrow......=P

I have used the Canon 5d2 for video work, so the 7D should be similar. The 5d2 doesn't have the rolling shutter effect on normal non-strobe video.

On the other hand, I heard/read that the nikon videos (esp D90) suffer from the rolling shutter.

I read the reviews that 7D has better video functions... u can google for '7D vs D300' Hope this helps.

Hello all:

After reading about D300S and 7D, me too is stuck with a situation. I just sold away my 2 months old D90. Do you guys think it makes any sense to upgrade to D300S? I got only a 50mm prime lens and 70-300mm lens which I can sell off.

I was thinking for getting a 7D but still not sure if this is wise..
