Funnily enough, CMOS sensors are actually 'noiser' than CCD based sensors, the advantage however is that noise is much easier to predict and digitally remove with algorithms and in-camera processing.

Yes, they are. One more advantage is that the ADC can be integrated on chip unlike CCD. So this allows CMOS to pick up less noise along the way before the conversion. This also allows parallel ADCs to be used so processing can be done faster. The advantages of CMOS outweighs the inherent noise performance compared to CCD.
