no grey sets for me.
if it breaks down...it's game over.

i rather pay original price and get one locally.

i believe D3 are designed for people who wouldnt think twice paying that amount for them.
if one is a ngeow-gao, want discount, want freebies, or pay by installments, or rather get it grey, then...all i can say is...the professional series cameras is not meant for them, be it d3 or eos-mk1d-dunno-what-lah.

For the D3@HK$30K comes with 2yr HK Nikon warranty and for some(regular HK goer) the cost of saving can buy a trip to HK for servicing. :)

just imagine when's there's problem with the HK d3, you'll have to schedule a trip there to get it fixed???!?!?

i believe 80-90% of D3 buyers are professional photogs.i really doubt they can afford that kind of time.

Its risk management. Nikon Singapore will still repair/service the camera. If the repair/service fees is less than the savings gotten from overseas, then you are still better off. If not, its just luck. Some people choose to buy local simply because they are more familiar with them and that follows by trust.

Exactly! Thats y u have to justify does the price difference of grey set makes a large saving as an backup for u just "INCASE" u have to send in for servicing in local. Unless u are so suay that expensive parts like the logic board or sensor get damage. but this are usually cause by mishandling which may not cover even with local warranty.. Just my 2 cents

Just came back from Hong Kong today. Are you sure they are selling at HK$30K? Are they reputable shops? 2 year warranty? Second year warranty is probably not directly from Nikon.

Man Shing is selling at S$6K nett based on today's exchange rate, with 1 year warranty for Hong Kong, Macau, and China. This is a lot wider coverage than Singapore :-))

And you can pay by credit card with no extra charges.

Camera warranty is only 1 year anyway. After the first year, it really doesn't matter where you buy it from.

I am not sure how many people have serious problems with their camera in the first year.

However, if your rice bowl depends on it and you are primarily based in Singapore, then the savings certainly do not justify the risk.

I got the feeling that there are quite a number of people who purchased D3 are not full time professional photographers.

Do I earn any $$$ when I bluff you  ?

Furthermore this is what I was quoted when I'm buying a Canon L lens at the same shop and the lens they sold me are already HK$250 cheaper than Wing Sheng.

I'm just sharing what I have found...furthermore Man Shing is equivalent to Lucky plaza shop in Singapore and you think the stuff they sell are cheap in HK as compare to other location ? Do you know what is the rental over there......

If you think the price at $HK30K++ that comes with HK Nikon warrarnty sound fishy than just ignore my posting. And if you think you can't afford risk than don't buy..simple.

I'm just sharing the price different in HK and SG and based on personal preference since I go HK offen.

Saw P & G selling D3 @ S$5700/- ;p

Hi hagenuk:

I know Man Shing is definitely not the cheapest in town, but it's reputable. More like a Cathay in Singapore.

May be I should check out other shops next time I visit Hong Kong for better deals :)

Thanks for sharing the info.

Yahoo! Auction in Japan got quite a few people selling off BNP ~SGD$5,200 for a new D3.

You can buy a D3 in HK with the Nikon worldwide warranty (but theere are grey sets too), all that means is that if it breaks down anywhere in the world, you can send it to Nikon for repairs, but at a costs. It doesn't mean you have to send the camera back to HK (that's only valid if you don't want to pay for the costs)......

Anyway, the Nikon warranty is only for a year.....after that it doesn't matter where you bought it, you need to pay for repairs

HS

only if the price difference is worth it. if only 1~2 hundred dollar difference then it would be better to get local.
