All,

I travel to Hong Kong regularly and I thought I check the price for D200 body at a couple of shops along Nathan Road at Tsim Tsa Tsiu. I walked into 10 shops and asked for D200 body, with cables, batteries, software. 5 shops quoted me HK$11000-12000 (S$2444-$2666), 4 shops quoted me HK$9100-9800 (S$2022-$2177), 1 shop quoted me HK$8500 (S$1888)! I got them to give me their name card with their names and the prices. Anyone bought SLR in Hong Kong before? Any catch to watch out for? I am tempted to return to the shop that quoted me HK$8500. He has stock as he showed me a new D200.

What do you guys think?

if it's true i m tempted also....

Amazing prices.
When you buy, tell us how it goes :)

As in body only, no cables, no manuals, no battery etc etc, literally just the body, well that would be my guess for $1888 region! The body is probably grey and may even be damaged for that price!

No warranty for singapore IIRC...

If you travel regularly, then its not a problem, I bought mine at Hongkong, no problem but I was accompanied by my Hongkong friend, who is a hobbyist. Just make sure you know what is inside. WHAO.... but frankly 1888 is too good a price to reject!!!! D200... my dream camera!!!

Then what u waiting for....MTL BBB....

wow 1800... i don mind even if it doesn't comes with batt/charger/cables/cd... as long as the body is new. ;p

If you feel it's worth it, just buy.

If in doubt that it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.

I think warranty should be no issue for camerashy! because in the first line he states that he travels to Hong Kong regularly! :)

Not all, but many shops in tsim sha tsui have bad reputation to attract customer with low price, the start thier tricks like batt , charger , cables need pay separate. Better goto reputable shops in Mongkok.

Well, I did not bring the deal negotiation to a final conclusion as I can only buy after October when I have some funds. However I did clarify with the each shop that the price comes with battery, charger, cables, software, and international warranty for one year.

This they confirm although one can only be absolutely sure there is no catch after finalising the deal. I heard people say that they may do a bait and switch, that is offer a great deal, get payment and then say they do not have stock and offer another model instead.

Anyway, maybe the S$1888 deal is too good to be true but even at $2100 which 3 shops offered me, its still a bargain from the best price I see in SG of S$2550.

Anyone else with some experience to share?

Details of the shops...in case some of you are in Hong Kong. Pursue at own risk as many of them strike me as the Lucky Plaza types. Don't pay or charge to credit card until you hold the unit you want and the parts in your hand, place them in the bag yourself, check that its international warranty and carry the bag in your hands. Maybe I am paranoid, but beware bait and switch tactics.

Shop that offered HK$8500 (~S$1888 based on exchange rate of 1:4.5)
Rainbow Digital City look for Addy, Shop B, G/F., 90-94C Nathan Road, Tel: (852) 23665984

Shops that offered HK$9100-9800 (~S$2100+)
Fancy AV City look for Ming, Flat C1, G/F., Golden Crown Court, 66-70 Nathan Road, Tel: 34283165

Welltime AV Centre, look for Jacky, Shop A, G/F., Majestic House, 80 Nathan Road, Tel: 34212735

I am not advocating these shops, just sharing some research experience through working the mouth and feet although I have not bought anything yet.

I plan to be back in Hong Kong sometime in October or November when I have some funds to follow up these deals and buy the D200. I will provide my experience again.
