2017 has seen all the major camera brands filing patents for curved sensors.
The primary advantage of curved sensor is smaller, easier to design lenses. What this means to consumer is a potential exodus from current systems to likely rangefinder-sized systems.
But don't expect the march of imaging technology to stop there. Already, there are patents emerging forliquid lenses -
refractive mediums that can change focal length like the human eye!
That will further shrink lenses to pancake sizes.
