Just go get one d40 for beginners like me... and then itch for the more lens, then flash, then this then that then... and I've yet to get a single good photo with d40.

Yup! I have not even bring the D40 out of my house to try some photo taking yet. Have to apply a day leave just to have time all by myself for this. :(

i think you read too much krw comments already...take his advise with a pinch of salt.

Heh, guilty as charged. And I'm probably biased since I have a D40.

His reviews make a lot of sense most of the time but not all the time. Sometimes you just need to try the product for yourself to see if you like/hate it. For me, it was the 18-200. He advocated it, I hated it.

Noise performance:

Ref:ExplorerZ

anyway at 100% the 6MP is indeed better, but once the 10MP d60/d40x image is resized to 6MP for comparison, it will be the other way round. iirc some1 from dpreview tested this by using d200 photos(older and less effective NR system than d60/d40x) and the details is a tack higher than d40 at the same resolution with lesser noise as well at high ISO.

To me is quite logic, and sound interesting to me because in the past was so irritated by noise performance.

What you think?

However now conscience me is how to compose a good photo rather than noise performance. I am new to DSLR.

What do I think? I think it's negligible. Between the D40/D40x/D60, it all really doesn't make a difference in terms of image quality.

is the price still valid???
thanks

18-200 has too much zoom all in 1 lens, more zoom = poorer quality, that's why i prefer his 18-55mm vr review better.

unless u pixel peep, care to explain why u hate it?

sure, it isn't tack sharp. it can be a pain to shoot all day with on the d40/x/60. but i think it's one of nikon's BEST all round lens.

btw, i had to choose between two lenses, the 40x kit and the 18-200. i let go of my 18-200 as the kit lens was much sharper.

might want to get another copy if the price weren't so prohibitive. ah well..:dunno:
