What CPU thermal compound (to connect CPU to heatsink) do you use?
What is the best?

Heard of:
OCZ Freeze
Artic Silver

Bought on impulse from SLS:
Connectland Silver Cool 1.5G

any compund will do. and dont apply too much, thin layer will do. thick layer will make it worst. you using AMD or intel?

ninelives, may I know why you asked the question? Both will still need paste isn't it? Is it that AMD emits more heat and one will need more paste? Sorry, just asking. :)

Arctic Silver 5 :)
I disassembled my 2-yrs old Macbook and reapplied the thermal paste ;)

for Intel CPU, it usually come with the HSF. so you dont really have to apply compound paste .

unless you dont trust the HSF and buy 3rd party one.

yah, mine has one. typical heat sink + fan in a frame with two while levers on both sides.
troublesome to remove , lah.

dont worry so much about CPU temperature , they can never get as high as graphic card. my graphic card can reach 90 degree Celsius when playing those high picture quality games. i can see those funny artifact when the temperature get higher.

Thanks for the comment, ninelives. Ah! So you mean that for AMD chips, there is no HSF? Only heat sink?

I just removed the HSF from my Intel chip a few weeks back to clean the heat sink and change the thermal paste. Can feel the air coming out of the CPU is cooler now. :)

last time i bought my AMD, dont have HSF one....must buy separately. don't know about now.

wah, u so hardworking take out the HSF. i wont do it myself coz I quite worry might break it.

Remove it gently lo... Wanted to remove all the dust that has gathered over the years. Can see from the vents outside that the Heat Sinks are blocked with dust. If laptop, then no choice la. But for a desktop, there is a lot of room.

ricohflex, how much you paid for the Connectland Silver Cool?

Be it AMD or Intel. Both brands CPU must apply thermal compound. Because the function of thermal compound is to fill up irregularities between the surfaces of the CPU and HSF to allow better heat conduction.
