Cost of Framing Photo

I'm not very sure if this is the right section to post at.. And I've tried a quick search in the forums (please pardon me if I missed out relevant threads and kindly point me to it)..

I'm looking to frame an A2 sized photo.. I've looked around and some shops offers developing the photo and framing as a package.. I can't find any shops for frames alone.. Does anyone knows how much does it costs and where can I go to frame such a photo?

I went to inquire at a neighborhood shop which does framing (those which frames jigsaws and such) and got a quote of $60+- depending on frame chosen.. I thought it was quite expensive.. Or is this the market price for these kind of shops?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

JB is cheap.

The price of framing would depend on the kind of frame you pick. But for an A2 custom frame, $60+- is pretty reasonable.

A cheaper alternative is to buy ready made frames but the problem you may find is that it is pretty hard to find one for A2 size.

You may want to pop by the Bras Basah area to check out the shops there to see if they have ready made frames. Another place you may want to check out is Ikea. They do sell larger frames with pictures in them; just need to buy it and swap the picture.

For framing shops, most neighbourhood estates (especially the older ones) should have at least one.

Different frames cost differently. Take note of:

1. The frame - wood (different quality), plastic, etc.
2. The picture mount - paper, mounting board, thickness, quality, etc.
3. The back board - wood, cardboard, etc.
4. the front - glass, (different quality), plastic, etc.
5. The hanger clips, the metal string, etc...
6. the brands, packaging, etc...

hmm.. means the range could be rather huge considering so many factors huh..
thanks for the reply Canonised..
I will go check out ready made once as mentioned by azzurri :)

when you get your frame done up from frame makers, are all custom framing, the cost is much higher, but compare to the value of the photos (not the cost of photo print), it maybe negligible.

readymade frames are more economy. the cheapest place to find is IKEA.

hope this help.

Hi catchlights,

Yes, I fully agree with you that the cost of framing the photo may be negligible when compared to the value of the photo itself..
I thought I should just check if there's a viable alternative to getting custom frames for my photo since it's quite a common size..
Thanks alot for your suggestion on IKEA.. Will check it out soon! :)

IKEA Tamp seems to have alot of frames?
